The String Studios MTCC collection will consist of all the original jersey designs from the early days of the Major Taylor Cycling Club of Columbus, Ohio.
This collection honors the earliest days of the Major Taylor Cycling Club movement by showcasing the original club’s kit designs.
The folks at String Studios were there in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, and many of the designs offered are their handiwork.
We started with the fifth original design and have plans to add several more. Ultimately, we will have seven original designs completely re-imagined and re-built using today’s fabrics and comfortable construction. Sign up for announcements; we’ll let you know when we offer new kits.
The growth of Major Taylor Clubs continues to reach new heights. The Major Taylor International Alliance is proof of the depth of the increase.
We feel the origins need a highlight. Many of the original members of the MTCC are still on the road. They actively participate in the growth of Major Taylor clubs by attending Alliance events. They are proud of the number of clubs carrying a name they pioneered.
We know. We’re part of the original MTCC Club.
We intend to honor them for making this movement possible.
Some of the original kits were not kits. They were single, short-sleeved jerseys. We designed jerseys, and the selection of shorts was left to us to decide. We all had our favorite brands, from Kuchurik to Avocet, and if they were all wool, all the better.
But times have changed, and so has the design of comfortable cycling. We’ve partnered with a US-based manufacturer – one we’ve tested thoroughly after years of wearing competitors’ kits. We feel this is one of the best-fitting, best-looking systems today.
Quite a few, actually.
First, it will help the founders.
They’ll get a kick by seeing the original kits in MTCC pacelines across the US.
Second, we want to help the MTCC Club movement grow. String Studios actively donates a portion of the proceeds of each sale to the Major Taylor Cycling Alliance. Just ask Brother Bill Gaston. He’s along with us on this roll.

The first of many to come

We question which jersey we developed first. Some were not jerseys but T or sweatshirts with iron-on lettering. Besides, so much is a blur. Nonetheless, we’ve decided this is the fifth in our line of outfits
Welcome Cinco.
We are sure this design is the second professionally constructed jersey. We estimate it first appeared in 1993 as the club approached a membership of 45.
The distinctive blue panels are accented with white and yellow shoulders and sleeves. This design, coupled with our symbol, the major leafs, made a strong statement in pacelines.
This jersey may not have been our fifth; however, one of the first with wide distribution as it included a logo of our sister club, The Cleveland Easy Riders.
